So, what exactly is Freespirit pubs? We own and operate five fantastic country pubs across Warwickshire and the surrounding areas. Each pub boasts the same Freespirit ethos of serving seasonal, fresh produce all the while offering a warm, welcoming atmosphere and their own unique personality (no two pubs are the same!) We believe that with these qualities, we offer the best country pubs in Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, and Northamptonshire.
The Castle at Edgehill is the eldest sibling in The Freespirit Family and is certainly not one to be missed! Are you a history lover? Are you always on the lookout for the next juicy Instagram shot? Well, this pub is quite literally a whooping great big castle, with some of the most breath-taking views in the whole county. Situated on the Oxfordshire/Warwickshire borderline, this Iconic site has also been nominated for the best pub garden in Warwickshire (hardly surprising with the battlefields of the famous Battle of Edgehill descending below).
In 2018, our Freespirit family grew by one when The Sun Inn, Hook Norton, our second pub in Oxfordshire, was born. Teetering on the edge of the Cotswolds, this pub is nestled in the beautiful village of Hook Norton, with the picturesque towns of Stow-on-the-Wold, Chipping Norton, and Moreton in the Marsh all within close proximity. This country pub is perfect for all the dog lovers out there and those with an appetite for seriously delicious food (Fran is an astounding chef and always has some unique, flavoursome veggie/vegan dishes on offer. She undoubtedly cooks some of the best dishes in the whole of Oxfordshire!)
Next on the list, we have The Red Lion at Hellidon, which is everything a traditional Inn should be with a cosy log fire, dog-friendly snug, and charming staff. However, there’s a little more to this country pub than what meets the eye – step inside and you’ll find a potent mix of the old and the new! Situated in Northamptonshire, this pub is a stone’s throw away from our Oxfordshire/Warwickshire based sites (14 miles from The Castle at Edgehill and 10 miles from The Bell Inn at Ladbroke).
In 2021 we took on The Bell Inn, situated just outside Southam in the chocolate-box, Warwickshire village of Ladbroke. This site champions the traditional British steakhouse – familiar, unpretentious, and above all else, welcoming. We only source the very best small farm produce, which is, of course, evident in the delicious cuts we serve. So why not come and check out the most delicious steaks in Warwickshire?
In 2023, The House, a stylish bar situated in the heart of Leamington Spa, became part of the Freespirit family. With its vibrant, contemporary atmosphere and expertly crafted cocktails, The House is the perfect spot for a night out or a relaxing drink with friends. Whether you’re after a signature cocktail, a chilled glass of wine, or a selection from its carefully curated spirits menu, The House has something to suit every taste.
In 2024, The Olde Coach House joined the Freespirit family. Nestled in the picturesque village of Ashby St. Ledger, this historic Inn exudes charm and character. Its warm, inviting interiors and hearty menu of seasonal, locally sourced dishes make it a true destination for lovers of traditional English hospitality.
So, I think you can see what we mean when we say each pub has its own distinctive qualities! We give our chefs the creative flexibility to devise their own menu, reflective of their individual passion and strengths.
However, this is not all we have to offer. We have our very own Freespirit Foodtruck, which is available to travel around Warwickshire, Oxfordshire (and beyond!) for multiple outside catering events. We believe that some of the tastiest dishes are served in take-out boxes and eaten with a wooden fork. This relaxed style of dining adds plenty of fun, quirkiness, and character to your event – plus, it makes for some awesome photographs. The Freespirit Foodtruck follows the same ethos as that of our pubs so yes, we can STILL deliver the best dining experience in Warwickshire from the middle of a field (and we know that there are plenty of those across both Warwickshire and Oxfordshire!)
