Hi everyone,
Well, the weather has certainly turned a bit, hasn’t it?
Luckily, I managed to squeeze in 18 holes of golf on Monday afternoon while the sun was still shining. Four hours out in the fresh air was just what I needed after a pretty full-on few weeks.
I think finding that balance is so important. Life seems to be constantly on the go for all of us, and hospitality is no different. It’s a 365-day-a-year business, and there’s always something happening.
But finding those little pockets of time to enjoy a hobby, catch up with friends or spend time with family is so important. It’s also one of the reasons I love what we do. Our pubs give people the chance to enjoy those moments every day, and that’s a pretty lovely thing to be part of.
Over the last few years, accommodation has become a much bigger part of Freespirit. And I genuinely think there’s something rather special about staying in a pub.
You might be working away and fancy somewhere a bit more homely than a hotel, planning a night away with someone special or simply treating yourself to a change of scenery. A comfortable room, some good food, a few drinks and a friendly face downstairs. What’s not to love?
Our stay and dine offers have been really popular this year, and they’re something we’re looking to build on as we head into 2027. Great value, lovely rooms and a brilliant welcome from our teams.
I also make a point of staying at one of our pubs at least once a month. It’s a good excuse to enjoy a different room or shepherd’s hut, but more importantly, it helps me see where we can keep improving, investing and making things even better.
We’ve recently opened four more bedrooms at The Coach House, above the pub. They’re lovely, spacious rooms with high ceilings and views out across the beautiful countryside. And if you haven’t yet stayed in one of our shepherd’s huts at The Bell, I’d highly recommend giving them a go. They’re fantastic, and I’m pretty confident you’ll love them.
Finally, if you’re wondering what to do this Saturday, we’re marking the anniversary of the Battle of Edgehill at The Castle. There’s a battle re-enactment from 4pm, live music from the brilliant Folly Brothers from 7pm, a hog roast and an outside bar. The restaurant will be open as normal too, and entry is free. It should be a cracking day!
Have a fantastic weekend, and I hope we get to welcome you to one of our pubs soon.
Big Love,
Mark
