A nod to Robert ‘Rabbie’ Burns!

23/01/2026

On 25th January, Scots around the world will gather to celebrate their national poet, Robert ‘Rabbie’ Burns. Even if you don’t have a Scottish bone in your body, it’s a cultural – and culinary – ritual worth embracing. From haggis to heartfelt verses, we try and make a nod to this fantastic day at some of our sites.

The celebration of Robert Burns began just a few short years after the poet’s death, when a few of his closest friends gathered to host a supper in his honour. This quickly grew to an annual event on Burn’s birthday, which is now celebrated by millions worldwide with traditional haggis, pipers, neeps, tatties and, of course, whiskey!

The question is, are you an avid Burns night celebrator? Or do you let it pass by with little to no thought? Which side of the fence are you on, and why – I would LOVE to know. Burns night is always an unpredictable one for us at the pubs, you never quite know what the turnout is going to be. I personally love a bit of a Burn’s night celebration and with my wife’s Scottish routes, it feels even more special. If you are thinking of celebrating, here is what we have going on:

Join us at The Castle this coming Saturday (24th) for their Burns night celebration, complete with a whiskey tasting flight and delicious specials, including creamy smoked haddock soup, haggis wrapped in steak and cranachan (Raspberries with honey and whiskey cream and oatmeal!) The Castle in particular is filling up, so be sure to book your spot now!

If Burns night is a little too late for you, there’s always the Burn’s lunch specials on offer at The Olde Coach House this weekend. They will be serving Scottish inspired specials, such as Cullen skink and tattie scones, Balmoral chicken, Neeps and Tatties, Curly Kale, Whiskey Peppercorn Sauce and Raspberry and Whiskey Cream Pot. This will be served from lunch time on Friday 23rd January, through to dinner time on Saturday 24th January.

The Bell Inn and The George also have some specially crafted specials on offer, complete with a whiskey option. Available on Saturday evening– don’t miss out!

If you do celebrate Burn’s night annually, I would love to know what you do. Do you have any Burn’s night traditions? Any Scottish routes? Get in touch!

Big Love
