Dear Guest,
I hope that you’re all having a fabulous week.
Across our pubs, the teams are preparing for one of the busiest Sundays of the year as we celebrate Father’s Day. It’s always a wonderful occasion, bringing families together to share good food, a few drinks, and, most importantly, quality time with the people who matter most.
It got me thinking about a recent documentary I watched on the BBC featuring Gareth Southgate, Changing the Game for Young Men. If you haven’t seen it, I’d really recommend giving it a watch.
I’m incredibly fortunate to be the father of three young boys. Without doubt, it’s the greatest responsibility I’ve ever had, and at times the hardest. But it’s also the most rewarding role imaginable, filling me with more love and pride than I could ever have expected.
For me, Father’s Day isn’t just about dads. It’s an opportunity to celebrate all the positive male role models in our lives – fathers, grandads, stepdads, brothers, uncles, coaches, teachers and friends. The people who quietly influence us, support us, and help shape the people we become.
At 42 years old, I still have plenty to learn. I regularly get things wrong, but I’ve come to realise that owning our mistakes, learning from them, and trying to be a little better tomorrow is one of the greatest lessons we can pass on to the next generation.
Occasions like Father’s Day also remind me why great pubs matter so much.
They’re more than places to eat and drink. In a world that often feels increasingly busy and disconnected, the simple act of sitting around a table together has never been more valuable.
They’re where families gather around a table, where stories are shared, memories are made, laughter echoes throughout the room, and generations come together. They sit at the heart of so many of life’s milestones, both big and small, and we never take for granted the privilege of being part of those moments.
Whether you’re celebrating your dad, remembering someone special, or simply enjoying time with the people you love, all of us at Free Spirit Pubs wish you a wonderful Father’s Day.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We can’t wait to welcome you.
Big Love
Mark Higgs
