There was something about the first real glimpse of spring this week, the sunshine, the return of lighter evenings that got me thinking about Easter. Not in the chocolate-aisle sense (though that has its place), but what it actually feels like at this time of year.
Easter is a curious one. It doesn’t carry the same weight as Christmas, and it’s not quite the carefree stretch of summer either. It arrives gently, almost unannounced, and before you know it there’s a long weekend ahead and a sense you should make the most of it.
More often than not, that happens in a pub. Not in any grand way, more by habit than design. A walk that needs a halfway point. A catch-up that turns into lunch. The first optimistic sit in a beer garden, even if there’s still a chill in the air. Easter draws people out again, and the pub becomes part of that rhythm.
There’s something nostalgic about it. Gardens coming back to life, tables filling with families, the hum of conversation drifting in the spring air. If you’ve got children in tow, there’s usually something quietly unfolding,an Easter egg hunt tucked away, or a colouring sheet being taken very seriously. Nothing over the top, just small traditions that return each year.
It’s simple, and that’s why it works. Easter brings people together without too much expectation. It’s less about big gestures and more about shared moments, a long lunch that stretches on, bumping into familiar faces, that first drink outside where everyone agrees it’s “warm enough now”, even if it isn’t!
Across Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and Northamptonshire, our pubs lean into that feeling over Easter, each different in character, but all offering the same welcome.
So whether it’s planned or somewhere you find yourself along the way, there’s something about a pub at Easter that feels exactly right.
However you’re spending it, have a wonderful Easter.
Big Love,
Mark
