Sometimes the best things are right on your doorstep…

I managed to grab a lunchtime walk along the River Leam this week. Nothing fancy, just 20 minutes in the sunshine watching the world go by.

The river was absolutely alive. A big carp cruising along the surface, hundreds of tiny baby fish shoaling in the shallows and the sun catching the water.

Sometimes the best moments cost nothing and are five minutes from your front door.

It got me thinking about why I love what we do. Great food, good drinks, beautiful surroundings. It doesn’t need to be complicated. Just done well, with good people around you.

Our pub gardens are looking their best right now, so if you haven’t sat outside with a cold drink and let the world slow down for an hour this summer, consider this your nudge.

You’ve earned it.
