Welcome folks, to my Freespirit spycam. It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these, but I wanted to share with you some of my more recent experiences of eating out. For those who know me well (or don’t!) you will know that I am huge foodie – I mean, it is no big secret. I love all things food and drink; I love trying new cuisines and I love meeting new people. I also find eating out to be incredibly useful in terms of encouraging creativity and sourcing inspiration. With this in mind, I wanted to let you know about a couple of my recent ventures.
HEM, Warwick
My wife and I recently had a wonderful dining experience at HEM, tucked away in Warwick’s historic market square. I had previously heard good things about this place, and we were certainly not disappointed. The space is small and intimate, so two team members on the floor was more than adequate. We started with a Bread & Intro course, followed by firecracker carrots, a fish course, meat course, cheese, and then a truly delicious sticky toffee pudding for dessert (think sweet, sticky, gooey, deliciousness). The service and food were faultless. The gentleman who looked after us, who I believe is also one of the co-owners, was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and passionate. I had the wine flight pairings which was superb, whilst my wife opted for some lovely non-alcoholic options. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, and both said we would be eager to return. It is easy to see why HEM is Michelin recommended, absolutely worth a visit.
Scran and Scallie, Edinburgh
Okay, so I understand that this place is a little less local – but if you’re ever in Edinburgh (or have plans to go) it is definitely worth a try. Set up by Edinburgh big hitters Tom and Michaela Kitchin, this Georgian pub in Stockbridge is a neighbourhood resource that manages to feel both dynamically of its city, but slightly rustic too. There are pub classics on offer, but also some more ‘fine dining’ options. The service was friendly and relaxed, the vibe warm and inviting. The food was delicious, perfect for a Sunday evening supper. We met some family here with our five-year-old son, and it was a great spot. We would return.
If you have had the pleasure of eating at one of these two establishments, or you would like to know more, please do get in touch. I could talk about food and restaurants all day, every day. So please, hit me up! We also have a couple of room offers running at the moement – perfect for a Spring staycation! More information below.
Big Love
Mark
